Uttar Pradesh is a state in northern India. The history of Uttar Pradesh is very ancient and interesting. It is recognised in the later Vedic Age as Brahmarshi Desha or Madhya Desha. Many great sages of the Vedic times like Bhardwaja, Gautam, Yagyavalkaya, Vashishtha, Vishwamitra and Valmiki flourished in this state Uttar Pradesh shares its borders with Nepal on the north, the Indian states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh on the northwest, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan on the west, Madhya Pradesh on the south, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand on the southeast, and Bihar on the east. Uttar Pradesh is a favored tourist destination in India with Taj Mahal, one of the eight Wonders of the World. Uttar Pradesh is the largest producer of food grains in India. Major food grains produced in the state includes rice, wheat, maize, millet (bajra), gram, pea and lentils. Banaras brocades and sarees, Lukhnow Chikan craft, Handmade carpet of Bhadohi and Gulabi meenakari craft are some of the well-known GI products of Uttar Pradesh.
