Description
Phulkari refers to the traditional embroidery of the Punjab region. It is made of two
words: Phul means flower and Akari means shape/craft. Besides flowers it also
cover motifs and geometrical shapes. Phulkari work done by the women of the
household. Hand spun khaddar, Silk and Mulmul fabrics are used for embroidery
work because of their purity and longevity. It was registered under
Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999 on 22
October 2010 obtaining Geographical indication No. 27.
